Leading provider of independent living program, Untapped Potential, announces its expansion to Atlanta and Douglasville Ga.

June 19, 2019 —

Untapped Potential ILP (UP) is an approved provider of the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) independent living program serving 18 to 21-year-olds who are currently in the state of Georgia's foster care system. In line with the social services provider's goal of reaching as many youth as possible and making the community a better place to live, work and play for everyone, the agency is expanding its services to Atlanta and Douglasville Ga. This expansion will bring the agency's innovative, life-changing programs to these communities and consequently help more youth in these areas reach their potential.

Young adults of today, particularly between the ages of 18 and 21, are often susceptible to a variety of social vices that hinder them from becoming responsible adults and valuable contributors to their communities. These challenges are magnified for youth in the foster care system. Untapped Potential offers a wide range of programs aimed at helping youth grow into independent, responsible adults. Their program offers stable and safe housing, life coach services and additional resources that help participants acquire the skills necessary to function as an independent adult. The services provided by Untapped Potential are broadly categorized into Learning and Application, Positive Youth Development and Strengthened Community Connections. Services also include counseling, on-going case management, financial education, and daily living skills.

Untapped Potential has grown in popularity and acceptance, receiving accolades from many different quarters. Following is a quote by one of UP's community partners: " I can't speak highly enough about this program. The transition process to independent living for those who are in the foster care system can be daunting, stressful and frustrating. Working with the folks at Untapped Potential has been great. They are incredibly patient, kind, motivated and always have the best interest of the kids at heart."

WASHINGTON — A U.S. warship on Thursday destroyed an Iranian drone in the Strait of Hormuz after it threatened the ship, President Donald Trump said. In remarks at the White House, Trump blamed Iran for a "provocative and hostile" action and said the U.S. responded in self-defense. Iran's foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, told reporters as he arrived for a meeting at the United Nations...

Mike Lee of Utah and Rand Paul of Kentucky to bring up the bill with two amendments sponsored by the GOP senators. Paul and Lee had been blocking a vote. Paul was concerned about its effect on the deficit, while Lee wanted to ensure...

Homeland Security chief: Family border separations are down

Jul 19, 2019

WASHINGTON — A top Trump administration official said Thursday the number of family separations at the border has fallen since last summer's zero tolerance policy, and they are done only for compelling reasons. Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan said fewer than 1,000 children have been separated from families out of 450,000 family groups that have crossed the border since October. He said they are separated because of health and safety concerns, among other reasons. "The vast majority" of families are kept together, he said. That tally does not include children who come with older siblings, or aunts and uncles...
