Ecosa and Francesca Del Rosario are pleased to release the results of their mattress survey conducted on August 12-15, 2018. The study consisted of two questions and was designed to learn more about the types of mattresses that Australians are using. All Australian states and territories except Jervis Bay were queried, and there were 833 respondents to the questions. The two questions which were asked were: 1) What type of mattress to do you have? and 2) How old is the mattress you are using.
In brief, Australians still put the traditional spring mattress as their top choice and the new-technology memory foam mattress as a budding second. The key findings showed that the age of the respondent played a significant role in the results. Among all respondents, fifteen percent preferred memory foam mattresses. However, most of the respondents were from older age groups and overall, 69 percent of people preferred the traditional spring mattress. Younger age groups are technology-savvy and possibly more open to new mattress technologies.
Among the memory foam mattresses, the mattress-in-a-box type is the dominant type. Their popularity has only been surging in the last three to five years. Most people who have spring mattresses have them for at least five years. For those who are owners of memory foam mattresses, the mattress is likely to have been purchased in the last few years and are in the 18-34-year-old age group.
When the results of the survey were displayed by area, there were also some variations even within the age groupings. For example, most people in South Australia and five other Australian states use spring and memory foam mattresses, while only a small percentage use latex ones. Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory deviated from their second-ranked choices. In these states, spring mattresses were still the most popular, but the second choice was latex rather than memory foam. Full details about the results can be seen on the website.
